Commissioning

The final step of the fire alarm and detection system installation, Commissioning is possibly the most important step in the installation of the fire alarm system. This is because they are the person who checks the whole system and sign's it as safe and fit for purpose.

First they check it is fitted as per the design specifications and the as-fitted drawing and that the system complies with BS5839 and wirring is to the wirring regulations and safe to use.

Once they are satisfied the system is as it should be the commissioner will then test every device, detector and sounder on the system including checking the system performs as it should in various fault scenarios. If the commissioner is not happy with the system he will give a list of works to be done before a re-test and will not pass it or certificate it.

Our traffic light commissioning system has been designed to help our customers in achieving results. If you don’t want to spend time addressing analogue systems or fault finding, try red, amber or green services.

  • RED traffic light commissioning service for the commissioning of up to 25 devices per day
  • AMBER traffic light commissioning service for the commissioning of up to 50 devices per day.
  • GREEN traffic light commissioning service for the commissioning of up to 75 devices per day or 37 per half day.

Contractor's Commission Checklist

        (Addressable systems)

  • You have a maximum of 10 devices left to second fix.
  • You have some/no devices addressed.
  • You have continuity of each of the ring circuits - earth to earth and positive to positive.
  • You have tested continuity between positive and negative, positive and earth and negative. All reading show no continuity nd that readings are greater than 2m ohms.
  • You have full wiring diagrams. (Marked with address numbers, loop number and panel number.)
  • You have a full list of text that needs to be allocated to each device on the system.
  • You have earthed all connections into the fire alarm panel.
