Fire Extinguishers

WHY DOES MY BUSINESS NEED FIRE EXTINGUISHERS?

Prompt use of a fire extinguisher can prevent a small fire becoming a big problem, and can help keep both your staff and your premises safer. A small fire may be nothing more than an inconvenience, whereas a major fire could bring your business to its knees. Adequate provision of fire extinguishers in the workplace is a requirement of your insurance and a legal requirement under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

DEPENDABLE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS FOR YOUR BUSINESS

We won’t send a pushy salesperson to sell you unneeded fire extinguishers; our fully trained engineers will give you an honest assessment of what types of fire extinguishers your premises needs and then give you time to make your mind up.

You can count on us to supply you with the correct number of fire extinguishers for your property – no more, no less. You won’t need to pay for extra fire extinguisher maintenance that you don’t need, saving you on ongoing maintenance.

WHAT TYPES OF FIRES DO EXTINGUISHERS COMBAT?

Do you feel safe from the threat of fire every time you look at the fire extinguisher in your office? But what if in the event of a fire, it didn’t work? With regular servicing you can be sure that if the time comes when you need to use your fire extinguishers they work exactly as intended. That’s where you can rely on us to keep your extinguishers in fantastic condition.

All types of fire hazard are rated alphabetically. Your fire extinguisher will display its rating and suitability for each type of fire risk.

Water Extinguisher

Water extinguishers are suitable for class A fires caused by the combustion of solid materials, mainly of organic origin, such as: wood, paper, straw, textiles, coal etc.

Dry Powder

Dry powder fire extinguishers are extremely versatile as they can be used on class A, B, C and electrical fires. As well as being suitable for use on flammable liquid fires, they can be used on flammable gasses. The non-conductivity of the dry powder makes them safe for use on fires involving live electrics.

Fat-Fire / Wet Chemical

Wet chemical fire extinguishers are designed to extinguish class F fires and are the best extinguishers available for cooking oil fires. The wet chemical fire extinguisher offers the highest level of protection against all class F fires.

Foam Extinguisher

AFFF stands for aqueous film-forming foam, pronounced A-triple-F. Foam extinguishers should be used on flammable liquid fires or burning materials. Red with cream-topped labels, the foam from these extinguishers not only works to extinguish the flames, but also seals in any harmful vapours. ‘Foam spray’ extinguishers feature a special spray nozzle as mentioned above, so a 6 litre AFFF usually has the same rating as a 9 litre water extinguisher.

CO2 Extinguisher

CO2 is ideal for use on electrical fire and flammable gases. Red with black topped label, they have a distinctive (horn) nozzle for effective non-damaging protection. These extinguishers are often paired with A-rated extinguishers to provide a mess-free alternative for office fires etc. (Rating B, E).

YOUR FIRE EXTINGUISHER MAINTENANCE PROGRAMME

Fire extinguisher servicing is one of the most important maintenance routines for the preservation of your premises. Extinguishers must be ready to act whenever needed, and their regular checking is part of your Health and Safety obligations under the Fire Safety Order of 2005.
